time in Chile and more people died. Cold weather continues across a great
deal of the world and we are happy to be in South Florida. Maybe our counter

Dear Angel and Falon,
For more than a year now a friend of mine in
the Philippines, a woman who worked for the US in Iraq for almost three
years, has been trying to get a visa to visit us. Finally, after months
of collecting papers, arranging appointments, and making sure that all
the I's were dotted and the T's were crossed, she had her interview at
the US Embassy in Manila. The result? Despite having a husband and three
children in the Philippines, owning her own house and other property, and
having an import/export business of long standing, she was denied a tourist
visa to enter the US. The reason? 'Insufficient proof that the individual
did not intend to immigrate to the US.' Bull. If it hadn't been for the foreign nationals
who worked for us in Iraq, we would have had to have over 350,000 US troops
there on the ground. Our mess section was doing convoy security and guard
duty, instead of food service, because KBR contracted for the food service.
Same with laundry, water purification, power generation, and a host of
other services. Practically, these people went through the
same things we did on a daily basis, getting shot at and sometime killed,
without any of the benefits that Americans had in the same situation. I'm really pissed, I guess, and my faith in
the ability of the US of A to manage a moral stance in the world is rapidly
fading.

Sometimes a movie just comes
together. Such was the case with:
Cast: Leonardo DiCaprio, Mark Ruffalo, Ben Kingsley,
Michelle Williams, Max von Sydow
While Falon and I rarely like gory horror
films, we do like suspense. Even though "Shutter Island" was not given
huge ratings by some critics, We enjoyed it very much. The ending caught
us completely by surprise. Be sure to catch this one!
